2011 Football Board: Week 9 Recap

Let me officially throw out a few congratulations since I haven’t mentioned them on the blog yet.
Congratulations to the Current Mrs. Roto and Matthew Berry on their newborn twins. Let’s hope they grow up in a era of Redskins prosperity so they don’t end up bitter Berrys.
Congratulations to Nate, Matthew, Pod and Stephania on winning the Best in Sports podcast at the Podcast Awards. Your nonsense (and fantasy insight) are worthy of the award.

There weren’t any new wagers this past week so let’s get on to the recap.

Open:

  1. Over/Under 1,500 Total Yards for Felix Jones
Felix didn’t play this week and is still at 360 yards. Crazier things have happened but I think bet is over.
    Projected: Under (Nate)
  2. Who has more fantasy points: DeAngelo Williams or LeGarrette Blount?
It’s hard to tell if the Panthers were on bye or DeAngelo had another off game. Blount returned to action and extended his lead to 61-43. So long as he can stay healthy, Blount will win this; There’s just too many rushing yards/TDs vultures in Carolina to trust DeAngelo.
    Projected: LeGarrette Blount (Matthew)
  3. Who has more fantasy points: Kevin Kolb or Sam Bradford?
Kolb did not play due to injury and Bradford returned to action. Bradford did not have a good game but he was able to make up ground. Kolb leads 79-56 and if he misses any more time his lead may be gone in couple weeks.
    Projected: Kevin Kolb (Nate)
  4. Who has more fantasy points: Cedric Benson or Shonn Greene?
Both guys had 7 point weeks so this bet is still neck and neck at 63-62 in Benson’s favored. I still like Benson more since he’s clearly the #1 back in Cincy. Greene is still in a timeshare in NYJ.
    Projected: Cedric Benson (Nate)
  5. Who has more fantasy points: Mario Manningham or Jeremy Maclin?
Manningham had a nice week but it should’ve been better with no Hakeem Nicks. Maclin still leads 80-41 and was another solid target for Vick the past week.
    Projected: Jeremy Maclin (Matthew)
  6. Will Knowshon Moreno be a top 15 RB?
McGahee returned and Moreno’s fantasy value went back in the toilet. He dropped to #59 and probably won’t even crack the top 40.
    Projected: No (Nate)
  7. Will Matt Ryan outscore Joe Flacco by 25 pts?
Ryan had a nice week thanks to Julio Jones but was only slightly better than Joe Flacco. Ryan did extend his lead to 113-101 and will probably keep outperforming Flacco by a couple of points each week.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  8. Over/Under 23.5 TDs for Redskins QBs
The Redskins scored a touchdown!! They’re now up to 8 TD passes and they’re on pass for 16 TDs.
    Projected: Under (Nate)
  9. Will Johnny Knox outscore Nate Burleson by 20 pts?
Burleson was on bye this week and Knox didn’t do much of anything. Knox leads 33-31 and I don’t think either guy will really do much to separate themselves.
    Projected: No (Matthew)
  10. Who has more fantasy points (in a PPR league): Stevie Johnson or Dez Bryant?
Johnson leads 113-89 and Bryant should make a nice gain on Johnson over the next couple of weeks. Miles Austin injured another hammy and this opens the door for Bryant to be the man in Dallas. Despite Fitzpatrick’s funk, Johnson still pulls in enough receptions to be productive. Week 10 may be the turning point in this bet, depending upon what Bryant can do.
    Projected: Stevie Johnson (Nate)
  11. Who has more fantasy points: Reggie Wayne or Santonio Holmes?
Holmes managed to take over the lead 55-53 thanks to a TD reception. Otherwise, both players had forgettable weeks. Indy is mess and you can’t trust Wayne any more. I like the upside of Holmes more.
    Projected: Santonio Holmes (Matthew)
  12. Who has more fantasy points: Chester Taylor or LaRod Stephens-Howling?
Both guys made it in to the stat sheet but neither did enough to pick up any fantasy points. Wells returned to action and both these guys can return to no fantasy potential. The one big week for LRSH should win the wager.
    Projected: LaRod Stephens-Howling (Matthew)
  13. Will Jordy Nelson be a top 20 WR (using ppg)?
Nelson had another 100 yards and TD this past week. This bumped his ppg to 10.5 and his ranking to #9.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  14. Will Dwayne Bowe be a top 20 WR?
Bowe dropped another spot to #8 but still had a solid day. He’ll be alright, even if he doesn’t make it in to the end zone like he did last year.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  15. Who has more fantasy points from week 5 on: Laurent Robinson or Titus Young?
Young was on bye and Robinson had a nice week with a TD. Robinson should see more production with Miles Austin out for several weeks. This should give Robinson enough time and production to build a solid lead over Young. The bet is currently 31-14 in Robinson’s favor.
    Projected: Laurent Robinson (Nate)
  16. Who averages more fantasy points per game from week 7 on: Josh Freeman or Sam Bradford?
Bradford returned to action with an 8 point week and Freeman had a 15 point week. Freeman leads 12.5 ppg to Bradford’s 8 ppg. St. Louis is just too banged up at WR for me to trust Bradford any more.
    Projected: Freeman (Nate)

After 9 weeks, I’m projecting Nate to win the board 15-11.
