2011 Football Board: Week 7 Recap 3

That new feature that I’ve been promising the last couple of weeks will make its debut tonight, just in time for you to start putting in your waiver claims. So, keep an eye out on that and let me know what you think of it. I’d like to add more items to the site as it gets a little boring tracking stats.

Closed:

  1. Did Matthew brag about the Dolphins’ CB duo in a 2010 podcast?
Thanks to a reader, they found the podcast that had Matthew Berry discussing the prowess of the Miami Dolphins CBs. It was the 10-29-10 podcast, right around the 6:00 mark. He talks about not being high on the Bengals receivers (Ochocinco and Owens) and saying the strength of the Dolphins are their corners. Nate said they were terrible and Matthew begged to differ.
    Winner: Yes (Nate)
  2. Who has more fantasy points in week 7: Carson Palmer or John Beck?
It’s too bad Carson Palmer did not start this week as John Beck would’ve destroyed him 18 to -2. But Kyle Boller started for Oakland and nullified this bet.
    Winner: Push

Open:

  1. Over/Under 1,500 Total Yards for Felix Jones
Felix was out this week and is still at 360 yards and is now on pace for 960 total yards. This bet is essentially over, unless Jones has a couple of Arian Foster/DeMarco Murray type games when he returns.
    Projected: Under (Nate)
  2. Who has more fantasy points: DeAngelo Williams or LeGarrette Blount?
DeAngelo once again did not do much as he only picked up 3 points in week 7 and now only trails 54-40. Blount is on bye in week 8 and if he can make it back in week 9, should get the majority of the working the Bucs backfield.
    Projected: LeGarrette Blount (Matthew)
  3. Who has more fantasy points: Kevin Kolb or Sam Bradford?
Bradford sat out week 7 with an injury and Kolb actually had a productive day and extended his lead to 71-48. Both guys will probably end up being about the same going forward, now that Bradford has Brandon Lloyd to throw to.
    Projected: Kevin Kolb (Nate)
  4. Who has more fantasy points: Cedric Benson or Shonn Greene?
Greene didn’t look horrible in week 7 and now trails Benson by one point, 55-56. Despite the 1 game suspension for Benson, I still like him more as he’s not in a time share, so he’s got more opportunity to put up points.
    Projected: Cedric Benson (Nate)
  5. Who has more fantasy points: Mario Manningham or Jeremy Maclin?
Both players were on bye this week so the bet still stands at 63-20 in Maclin’s favor.
    Projected: Jeremy Maclin (Matthew)
  6. Will Knowshon Moreno be a top 15 RB?
Moreno dropped to #62 but he should start climbing back up the ranks with Willis McGahee’s injury. It’ll be a long shot to make the top 15 since he’s currently behind the #15 back by 59 points.
    Projected: No (Nate)
  7. Will Matt Ryan outscore Joe Flacco by 25 pts?
This bet was almost declared in favor of Matthew this past week when Ryan had his foot stepped on but he amazingly came back soon afterwards. Flacco looked bad on Monday night and Matt Ryan now leads 92-77. I’m starting to lose faith in Flacco and I think Ryan will slowly start to creep away from him in the coming weeks.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  8. Over/Under 23.5 TDs for Redskins QBs
John Beck actually had a decent game and picked up another TD pass for the Redskins. They now sit at 7 TDs and that puts them on pace for 19 TDs. With injuries to Hightower and Moss, it may be difficult to pick up TD passes in the coming weeks.
    Projected: Under (Nate)
  9. Will Johnny Knox outscore Nate Burleson by 20 pts?
You know what’s no fun? Tracking bets on players that are living in Dumpsville. Knox extended his lead to 32-29 but I still like Burleson more since the Chicago offense revolves around Matt Forte and I really don’t like their passing game. Detroit should have to keep throwing the ball a lot with Jahvid Best out with an injury.
    Projected: No (Matthew)
  10. Who has more fantasy points (in a PPR league): Stevie Johnson or Dez Bryant?
Johnson was on bye and Bryant took advantage of that had a nice 5 reception, 90 yard, 1 TD performance to cut the lead to 91-75.  This should be a close one but I still like Johnson to keep slightly ahead of pass of Bryant due to his receptions.
    Projected: Stevie Johnson (Nate)
  11. Who has more fantasy points: Reggie Wayne or Santonio Holmes?
Both had bad weeks only picked up a few points each. Holmes still leads 47-44 but I have zero confidence in either guy. I’m torn on who to project as the winner and I think this will come down to week 17. I’ll still with Wayne for now since it’s less editing.
    Projected: Reggie Wayne (Nate)
  12. Who has more fantasy points: Chester Taylor or LaRod Stephens-Howling?
LRSH probably just won this bet with one play. He picked up 13 points with a 73 yard TD reception and now leads the bet 14-3. He may pick up some more work with Beanie Wells’ injury but not a significant amount as it appears that Alfonso Smith is the next in line to start.
    Projected: LaRod Stephens-Howling (Matthew)
  13. Will Jordy Nelson be a top 20 WR (using ppg)?
No long TD receptions this week but Nelson did manage to pick up 5 points on 52 yards receiving. He’s currently sitting at #12 with 9.7 ppg. With Aaron Rodgers at the helm, Nelson is always a good bet for a long TD reception.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  14. Will Dwayne Bowe be a top 20 WR?
Bowe had another solid week and is back to #6. He’s got a good 17 point lead on the #20 WR (Victor Cruz) so as long as he keeps having solid weeks he should be able to stick in the top 20.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  15. Who has more fantasy points from week 5 on: Laurent Robinson or Titus Young?
And Titus Young has disappeared in Detroit. Robinson still picked up a couple more receptions and inched further away from Young, and leads 6-2. I’m not sure what’s happening with Young but I still like him more than Robinson given the number of options in Dallas ahead of him (Austin, Dez, Witten).
    Projected: Titus Young (Matthew)
  16. Who averages more fantasy points per game from week 7 on: Josh Freeman or Sam Bradford?
Freeman had an unspectacular day and picked up only 10 points. Bradford was out with an injury. So, one game in Freeman has a commanding 10 ppg to 0 ppg lead. I like Bradford a little more due having better receiving options. Freeman lost his check down back in Ernest Graham and Blount is a bad pass catcher. Lloyd and SJax should be the difference makers for Bradford.
    Projected: Bradford (Matthew)

After 7 weeks, I’m projecting Nate to win the board 14-12. It’s time for Matthew to start making more of those weekly bets as those seem to be the only ones that are going in his favor.

  • Assuming the wording on the Redskins QB bet is just “touchdowns”, shouldn’t Beck’s 2 rushing TDs count, bringing the current total to 9?

  • Never mind that, I double-checked the audio, and it is indeed passing touchdowns.

    • I’ve updated the wording on the board to make it clear that it’s only TD passes
