2011 Football Board: Week 5 Recap

Okay, so first off, I apparently lied last week when I said I would introduce a new feature last weekend. Well, Saturday came around and nothing got done. I’ll make a better effort this week to get something new out for you guys. We can only take so much news on Nate and Matthew’s board bets, right? I’ll give you a hint on what it’ll be about…recommendations from the wife.

I’ll leave you thinking about that and get on with the week 5 recap. There weren’t any weekly bets so it’ll just be a run down of what’s still open.

Open:

  1. Over/Under 1,500 Total Yards for Felix Jones
The Cowboys were on bye so Jones didn’t accumulate any more yardage. His yearly total to 327 yards and that puts him on pace for 1,308 yards. He’ll need to have a couple of monster games if he wants to get 1,500 yards.
    Projected: Under (Nate)
  2. Who has more fantasy points: DeAngelo Williams or LeGarrette Blount?
DeAngelo owners rejoiced as he managed to put up 17 fantasy points, but still only had 9 carries. That’s a bit worrisome but he’s showing that he’s the back that the Panthers are invested in. Blount on the other hand went down with a knee injury and may slow him enough to allow DeAngelo to get back in to this bet. We’ll have to see how serious this knee injury is. Blount leads 54-33.
    Projected: LeGarrette Blount (Matthew)
  3. Who has more fantasy points: Kevin Kolb or Sam Bradford?
I think Bradford had the better week and he didn’t even play. Kolb was horrible and managed to only pick up 4 points. He still leads 54-37 but if he keeps putting up these types of games then Bradford should be able to surpass him.
    Projected: Kevin Kolb (Nate)
  4. Who has more fantasy points: Cedric Benson or Shonn Greene?
Greene finally put together a nice week and tallied 14 points. Benson didn’t do a whole lot but is looking like he’ll push off his pending suspension to a later date. Benson’s lead is now down to 45-37 but I still don’t trust Greene to outperform Benson. Greene will need to have another productive 20+ carry game for me to believe in him.
    Projected: Cedric Benson (Nate)
  5. Who has more fantasy points: Mario Manningham or Jeremy Maclin?
Manningham continues to frustrate fantasy owners. He’s getting a decent number of looks but just can’t manage to put up impressive totals. Victor Cruz continues to impress and is stealing away some production from Manningham. Maclin put together another solid game and extended his lead to 53-15.
    Projected: Jeremy Maclin (Matthew)
  6. Will Knowshon Moreno be a top 15 RB?
As if McGahee taking his starting job wasn’t enough, now Tebow will steal more production from Moreno. Moreno did manage to get a receiving TD and 10 fantasy points in week 5 but he’s still at #57.
    Projected: No (Nate)
  7. Will Matt Ryan outscore Joe Flacco by 25 pts?
Ryan only managed 6 points in week 5 and only has a 6 point lead over Flacco. Ryan has some nice matchups coming up (CAR, NO) so he should return to his normal production but he’s not getting that separation from Flacco.
    Projected: No (Matthew)
  8. Over/Under 23.5 TDs for Redskins QBs
Grossman was on bye. His yearly total is 6 TDs and he’s on pace for 24 TDs. Grossman is starting to look like the QB we all thought he was. This one may very well be decided in week 17.
    Projected: Over (Matthew)
  9. Will Johnny Knox outscore Nate Burleson by 20 pts?
Both guy appear to be disappearing from their teams’ game plans.  Knox actually expanded his lead to 23-19. I’m still holding out hope for Knox while Burleson only has 5 receptions in the last three weeks (Knox has 9).
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  10. Who has more fantasy points (in a PPR league): Stevie Johnson or Dez Bryant?
Stevie Johnson had an off week but still has a commanding 77-44 lead. He’s clearly the #1 guy in Buffalo while Miles Austin should be returning in Dallas and taking over the #1 WR there. Bryant is talented but he’ll need some monster games to catch up.
    Projected: Stevie Johnson (Nate)
  11. Who has more fantasy points: Reggie Wayne or Santonio Holmes?
Both guys had productive weeks (Wayne 7pts, Holmes 12 pts) and Holmes now only trails 36-33. Curtis Painter is actually proving to be a decent QB and Wayne should still be able to be a productive WR but he just doesn’t appear to have that chemistry that Painter and Garcon have. It may be the USC hater in me, but I still don’t trust Mark Sanchez.
    Projected: Reggie Wayne (Nate)
  12. Who has more fantasy points: Chester Taylor or LaRod Stephens-Howling?
It’s still a 3-1 lead for Taylor but LRSH had 1 carry in week 5 (to Taylor’s 0). It may take 10 more weeks for LRSH to get the lead but it will happen.
    Projected: LaRod Stephens-Howling (Matthew)
  13. Will Jordy Nelson be a top 20 WR (using ppg)?
Well, the new contract didn’t help Nelson in week 5. He only managed 1 fantasy point and knocked him all the way down to #18.  Every WR is allowed an off week and I still like the fact that Rodgers is his QB. I’m not worried, he’ll still get his long TD receptions.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  14. Will Dwayne Bowe be a top 20 WR?
Didn’t this happen to Bowe last year? A slow start and then just went nuts? He’s got 4 TDs in the last three weeks and is now up to #6 in the WR rankings. I was apparently wrong on him but I’m not forgetting how he finished the 2010 season.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  15. Who has more fantasy points from week 5 on: Laurent Robinson or Titus Young?
Robinson was on bye and Young might as well have been as he only managed 1 fantasy point. Regardless, I still like Young more than Robinson now that Miles Austin’s return is eminent in Dallas.
    Projected: Titus Young (Matthew)

Tallying everything up, I have Matthew leading the board 12-11. Nate picked up another bet in his projected favor to make this board interesting. You know what would make this board more interesting? A nonsense wager. I’m surprised there has been one made already.
