2011 Football board: Week 4 Recap

And we’re back to the Tuesday weekly recap. I’ve been running through some new ideas for the site and may try to have some more posts throughout the week instead of just the weekly recaps and board wagers. I’ll give one of these new ideas a test run this weekend to see how it goes. If it goes well then I’ll keep it in the rotation. So, keep an eye on the site this weekend and please leave feedback.

Closed:

  1. Who has more fantasy points in week 4: Thomas Jones or Dexter McCluster?
If this bet was based upon total yards, then McCluster would’ve won 38-37 but this was for fantasy points so it was a push at 3 pts. 85.3% of the fan vote was for McCluster winning this bet.
    Winner: Push
  2. Who has more fantasy points in week 4: Jordy Nelson or Mike Thomas?
Another week, another long Jordy Nelson TD reception. I’m beginning to think that Nelson can do this every week. He easily beat out Thomas by a score of 15-7. The fans were in Nate’s corner on this bet as 77% sided with him.
    Winner: Jordy Nelson (Nate)

Open:

  1. Over/Under 1,500 Total Yards for Felix Jones
Jones still managed another productive week and brought his yearly yardage total to 327 and that puts him on pace for 1,308 yards. He’ll need to have a couple of monster games if he wants to get 1,500 yards.
    Projected: Under (Nate)
  2. Who has more fantasy points: DeAngelo Williams or LeGarrette Blount?
It took 4 weeks but DeAngelo finally showed up but so did LGB. Blount was a beast again on Monday Night and should continue to be a force. I think the three off weeks for Williams put him too much of a hole to dig himself out of. LGB is up 48-16.
    Projected: LeGarrette Blount (Matthew)
  3. Who has more fantasy points: Kevin Kolb or Sam Bradford?
Bradford actually had the better week 4 but the Rams look bad and I can’t really put in trust in to him at this point. Kolb had an off week but he still have Fitzgerald to throw the ball to and should continue to be more productive than Bradford. Kolb leads 50-37.
    Projected: Kevin Kolb (Nate)
  4. Who has more fantasy points: Cedric Benson or Shonn Greene?
Another week and another decent week for Benson. The way that Greene is playing, Benson may have made enough of a cushion for himself if he is suspended for several games. Benson leads the bet 40-23.
    Projected: Cedric Benson (Nate)
  5. Who has more fantasy points: Mario Manningham or Jeremy Maclin?
As an owner of both guys, I was disappointed in their week 4 performances. Manningham seems to not be quite back yet from his concussion and Maclin was solid but the lost fumble hurts. Victor Cruz’s emergence in NY concerns me a little as it little the amount of damage that Manningham will be able to do. Maclin leads 42-10.
    Projected: Jeremy Maclin (Matthew)
  6. Will Knowshon Moreno be a top 15 RB?
Two carries just doesn’t cut it if you want to be a top 15 RB. He slipped down the rankings yet again and is currently sitting at #78.
    Projected: No (Nate)
  7. Will Matt Ryan outscore Joe Flacco by 25 pts?
So apparently the Ravens played in week 4 and I’m not sure who the QB was for them but it certainly didn’t look like Flacco. Matt Ryan had a solid game and managed to catch up to Flacco and even up their point total at 56. This off game for Flacco worries me but I still think he’ll be able to keep up with Ryan…for now.
    Projected: No (Matthew)
  8. Over/Under 23.5 TDs for Redskins QBs
Grossman picked up another TD to put the yearly total at 6 and he’s on pace for 24 TDs. Grossman is starting to look like the QB we all thought he was. This one may very well be decided in week 17.
    Projected: Over (Matthew)
  9. Will Johnny Knox outscore Nate Burleson by 20 pts?
Knox is leading 22-19. Burleson appears to be giving up his receptions to Titus Young but fortunately for him Knox still has to deal with Cutler throwing the ball. It’s not looking promising for either guy but Knox is more on the up than Burleson.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  10. Who has more fantasy points (in a PPR league): Stevie Johnson or Dez Bryant?
Stevie Johnson is currently leading 71-44. Even though Dez had a 2 TD game in week 4, he only managed 3 receptions for 37 yards. Johnson is far more consistent and should be able to withstand the occassional huge games from Dez.
    Projected: Stevie Johnson (Nate)
  11. Who has more fantasy points: Reggie Wayne or Santonio Holmes?
Wayne leads 29-21. Even with Painter at the helm, Wayne managed to have an okay game. The Colts have been playing better so Wayne should still get his numbers. Holmes on the other hand may have less opportunities if the Jets go back to emphasizing their ground attack.
    Projected: Reggie Wayne (Nate)
  12. Who has more fantasy points: Chester Taylor or LaRod Stephens-Howling?
It’s still a 3-1 lead for Taylor but it doesn’t appear that he made it in to the game on Sunday. LRSH did have a couple of touches but not enough to pick up any points.
    Projected: LaRod Stephens-Howling (Matthew)
  13. Will Jordy Nelson be a top 20 WR (using ppg)?
Mark me as a believer in Nelson. A lot of this has to do with how well Aaron Rodgers is throwing the ball and making everyone look great. With a new contract and Rodgers at QB, Nelson should continue to produce.
    Projected: Yes (Nate)
  14. Will Dwayne Bowe be a top 20 WR?
Bowe managed another decent week and is now sitting at #17 on the WR rankings. I’m still not sold on him being a top 20 WR simply since the last game was against the 0-4 Vikings.
    Projected: No (Matthew)
  15. Who has more fantasy points from week 5 on: Laurent Robinson or Titus Young?
Wasn’t there already a hype train for Robinson that never got going? I think Robinson’s numbers will go in the tank once Miles Austin returns. There’s just too many other options in Dallas for him to outperform Young. Young is in a similar situation but his stock appears to be on the rise.
    Projected: Titus Young (Matthew)

Tallying everything up, I have Matthew leading the board 13-10. Several more bets went in to Nate’s favor, which is a good since Matthew was looking like he was going to run away with this board. I’m still waiting the obligatory nonsense bet to be made.
